In The Woods

Green and brown, and the smell of pine,

The shadows spotted from the sun above.

Full of life, the sound of birds, singing, screeching,

Calling out to one another, high above and all around.

The buzz of so many different insects, swarming in the warm sunlight,

Darting from shadow to shadow, or scurrying about on the forest floor.

Little creatures scurry about, up a trunk, or down a hole.

Tock, tock, tock, of the woodpecker's beak, and the subtle sigh of the wind,

The trees' eerie shudder and creak.  Here in the woods is my heart, and my home.

Here in the woods, I am at peace.
